Tamar Zeitlin – Biography

Tamar Zeitlin is an Israeli painter and artist, born in 1985 in Jerusalem. She is a tenth-generation native of the Land of Israel, descending from the Segal family of Safed, which has lived in the country for centuries.

She spent her childhood between the historic neighborhoods of Jerusalem and the winding alleys of Safed’s Old City, where her grandparents and many of her relatives lived. Her grandfather, Michael, was a renowned coppersmith and Judaica artist in Safed. Tamar spent countless hours by his side, where she developed her deep love for art and creativity. It was in those ancient alleyways of Safed that she absorbed the inspiration and emotional depth that would later shape her artistic expression.

Tamar began professional painting studies at a very young age and, by the age of 16, was already teaching painting classes for girls in Jerusalem, offering professional courses.

She continued to refine her skills in realistic illustration and various artistic techniques under the guidance of different artists.

As the art world evolved with new technologies, Tamar pioneered digital art, developing her own unique painting techniques in this medium.

Her works adorn private homes, offices, and hotels across Israel, the United States, and worldwide, and they have been exhibited in various galleries and art shows.

Tamar has illustrated numerous books with her stunning artwork and has created an extensive collection of Judaica pieces, including oil and acrylic paintings, metal art, and portraits of great rabbis in diverse styles.

A devoted wife and mother of six, Tamar was once a leading artist in the ultra-Orthodox community and a member of the anti-Zionist Neturei Karta sect, where she primarily painted rabbinical figures and Jewish themes.

In a bold and life-changing decision, she and her husband left the insular community to embark on a new path as proud Jewish Israelis, together with their six children. Today, Tamar is also deeply involved in bridging divides and fostering unity among people.

Her current works are bold, expressive, and deeply personal, reflecting the profound transformations she has undergone. They explore themes of life, nature, love, and, above all, Jewish and Hasidic art.

Zeitlin Gallery is located in the Judean Hills, in the Town of Tzur Hadassah, overlooking Jerusalem. If you are visiting Israel, you are warmly invited to stop by, explore, and experience the diverse collection of artworks.
